His reliance on primary sources, such as Ben-Gurion’s personal diary shed light on the latter’s full knowledge, and encouragement of Palestinian expulsion from their homes - usually in violent fashion. He criticizes, as others have, on the commodification of the memory of the Holocaust.

Segev is part of a group of Israeli historians known as the “New Historians,” who have challenged traditional narratives of Israel’s history, particularly those related to the early years of the Israeli state and the circumstances surrounding the creation of the Palestinian refugee problem.
