Angela Davis

Angela Davis, a prominent American political activist, philosopher, and academic, has been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause and has drawn connections between the struggles of African Americans and Palestinians.

In her activism and writings, Davis has criticized the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and has advocated for the rights of Palestinians. She has described the treatment of Palestinians by the Israeli government as a form of apartheid, drawing parallels to the historical oppression faced by black people in the United States and South Africa.

Davis has been a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which aims to pressure Israel to comply with international law and respect Palestinian rights. In 2019, she was a co-recipient of the Fred Shuttlesworth Human Rights Award from the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, but the award was initially rescinded due to her support for BDS. The decision was later reversed after public outcry.

During a 2015 speech at the University of Chicago, Davis emphasized the importance of intersectionality in activism and connected the issues of police brutality in the United States with the treatment of Palestinians by Israeli security forces.

Throughout her career, Angela Davis has consistently advocated for the rights of marginalized communities and has viewed the Palestinian struggle as part of a larger global fight against oppression and injustice. Her activism has brought attention to the plight of Palestinians and has encouraged solidarity between various social justice movements around the world.
